The Cosmic Engineers group in Second Life is usually not open for public join, please send IM to one of the officers (Eschatoon, Philippe Golding, Khannea Suntzu, Peer Infinity, and others) if you wish to join. The group has open regular meetings on Sundays at 10am PST/SLT (1pm EST, 6pm UK, 7pm Continental EU) and organizes events in Second Life (see Current events). The Cosmic Engineers meeting point Cosmic Engineers @ Extropia Core, shared with SL-Transhumanists, is on the Extropia Core sim. The group is switched to open public join during Sunday meetings.
The Second Life meeting point is linked to the Cosmic Engineers IRC channel by a Second Life - IRC gateway developed by David aka Lucifer. The Second Life - IRC relay can be switched on and off in Second Life.
You can teleport to Cosmic Engineers @ Extropia Core by using this SLURL. The current landing point is on the main meeting floor. At the north, you will see the SL DNA Sculpture.
Cosmic Engineers @ Extropia Core is adjacent to the Port Moravec sim. You will see the base of the Port Moravec build (picture below) at the south if your graphics settings are high.
On July 20, 2008, Philippe Van Nedervelde, Executive Director of the European Foresight Institute and one of the founding members of the Order of Cosmic Engineers, gave a presentation on Awaken The Universe -- Introducing the Order of Cosmic Engineers, at the 4th Annual Workshop on Geoethical Nanotechnology. The workshop took place at the Terasem Amphitheater in Second Life and explored what geoethical management, if any, is appropriate for the nanotechnology necessary for cryonic revival and embodiment of downloaded cyber-consciousness. The foundation of the Order of Cosmic Engineers was announced at The Future of Religions/Religions of the Future conference in Second Life on June 5, 2008.
